född 2 november 1858, död i december 1932, var en svensk idealistisk konstnär. Krouthen föddes i Linköping och var son till handlaren Conrad Krouthen och Hilda Åberg. Släkten Krouthen kom från Norrköping och flera generationer hade arbetat som tenngjutare. Familjenamnet Krut ändrades genom att varubeteckningen Krut-tenn förfranskades till Krouthen. Conrad Krouthen kom till Linköping 1850 och startade en manufakturaffär vid Stora torget. Affären gick bra och 1857 kunde han gifta sig med sömmerskan Hilda Åberg. Krouthen kunde växa upp i ett välmående hem och han fick börja skolan på läroverket i Linköping. Vid 14 års ålder slutade han skolan och började arbeta åt fotografen och målaren Svante Leonard Rydholm som hade en atelje vid St. Larsplan. Krouthen fick lära sig grunderna i både målning och fotografering och vid 16 års ålder började han på Konstakademiens principskola i Stockholm 1875. Den treåriga utbildningen innebar att eleverna fick lära sig att rita av klot och profiler, djur och växter. Efter de tre åren fick Krouthen fortsätta vid akademin. I kursen "Lägre antiken" fick eleverna rita av gipsmodeller, i "Högre antiken" teckna efter levande model och i "Landskapsskolan" fick eleverna måla landskap. Under studietiden sökte sig många elever utanför skolan och Krouthen lärde känna konstnären Edvard Perseus. Paul Bril
Flemish Baroque Era Painter, ca.1554-1626 Paul (1554-1626) and Mattheus (1550-1583) Brill (or Bril) were brothers, both born in Antwerp, who were landscape painters who worked in Rome after earning papal favor. They are also described as painters of capricci (whims or fancies) or vedute ideate or veduta di fantasia, with typical rustic hills with a few ruins. Mattheus began work on several frescoes in Rome from 1570 onwards, and his work includes the Vatican Seasons. Mattheus died young, and his brother continued his work around 1574. Paul painted frescoes such as the landscapes in the Casino Rospigliosi (Rome), and The Roman Forum, which showed this site for what it had become: a slum for squatters and pasture for livestock (so much so that the place was nicknamed Campo Vaccino, or The Cowfield). His masterpiece may be a fresco in the Clementine Hall of the Vatican. Paul also did engravings and small cabinet paintings on copper, some of which are signed with a pair of spectacles (a pun on the French word brilles, spectacles). Some of these were collaborations with Johann Rottenhammer, who according to a dealer letter of 1617 painted the figures in Venice and then sent the plates to Rome for Bril to complete the landscape. Pehr Horberg
was born January 31, 1746 in Virestad parish in Småland, Sweden and died January 24, 1816 in Risinge in Östergötland, Sweden, was a Swedish artist, painter and musician. In 1769 he married the maid Maria Eriksdotter and they had three sons. Pehr Hörberg birthplace Virestad is a small town and a village in Älmhult Municipality in Kronoberg County, in Småland, Sweden. It was formerly the central area of the old Virestad parish. The church in Virestad was built of stone 1799-1800 on the site of a former medieval church. Some of its treasures include a pulpit from the 1600s and an altarpiece by Pehr Hörberg. He died in Falla in Hällestad Bergslag, where he owned 1/4 of the homestead, and part of the village Olstorp, in Risinge parish, where he also owned 1/4 of the homestead. Both the fourth in Falla in Hällestad and the fourth in Olstorp in Risinge were mining districts estates, located in Finspång Municipality in Östergötland County. Hörberg got his "huts in an aiding position", so to his own satisfaction that he 25 years later wrote about Olstorp and the farm in Falla, that he had later acquired, that the estates were very importat for him.
BRAY, Jan de
Dutch Baroque Era Painter, ca.1627-1697 Painter, draughtsman and etcher, son of Salomon de Bray. He spent virtually the whole of his career in Haarlem, except for the period 1686-8, when he lived in Amsterdam. After training with his father, Jan began working as a portrait painter in Haarlem in 1650, an activity he continued for the next 40 years. Between 1667 and 1684 he served on the committee for the Haarlem Guild of St Luke, whose leading members he portrayed in a picture dated 1675 (Amsterdam, Rijksmus.) that includes a self-portrait (Jan is seen standing and drawing on the left). He married three times, in 1668, 1670 and 1672. His first two wives died a year after their marriage, his third two years afterwards, and in each case the death was followed by disputes over the inheritance. Jan's bankruptcy of 1689 may have been a result of one of the lawsuits.
